Introduction
The WTO Secretariat maintains a limited internship programme for post-graduate university students wishing to gain practical experience and deeper knowledge of the multilateral trading system. Only a limited number of such internship posts is available.
General Functions
Assignments given to interns are intended to enhance interns' knowledge and understanding of the WTO and of trade policy more generally. However, the needs of the Division recruiting an intern will be paramount in determining the precise nature of assignments.
Eligibility
Interns are recruited from among nationals of WTO Members state.
Interns will have completed their undergraduate studies in a relevant discipline (e.g. economics, law, political science, international relations), and shall have completed at least one year of their postgraduate studies.
The minimum age for an intern shall be 21 years and the maximum age 30 years.
A roster of suitable candidates is maintained from which interns are selected. In addition to the regular internship programme, the need may also arise to recruit interns at short notice for particular tasks. These recruits will also be drawn from the roster. Names will not be maintained on the roster for longer than one year.

The JIU internship is for a period of two to six months depending on the needs of the department.
The Joint Inspection Unit (JIU) is the only independent external oversight body of the United Nations system mandated to conduct evaluations, inspections and investigations system-wide.
Based on priority areas relevant to its mandate, the Unit developed a results-based Strategic Framework for 2010-2019, providing a roadmap for increased oversight in response to stakeholders' demands (Annex III of A/63/34), which was subsequently acknowledged by General Assembly resolution 63/272.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week under the supervision of an Evaluation and Inspection Officer in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Teamwork: Good interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from different national and cultural backgrounds to achieve organizational goals.

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

The Macroeconomic Policy and Financing for Development Division (MPFD) Internship is for minimum of three months, with a possibility of extension up to six months, if required by the Division.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (37.5 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the Division or Section to which they are assigned.
MPFD provides a combination of normative-analytical and capacity-development activities to 53 member States and 9 associate members of ESCAP, taking into account the significant variation in their geographic, demographic, and socio-economic conditions. The Division undertakes analytical studies and policy-oriented research on medium- to long-term macroeconomic and development issues facing the region, including for the development needs of the region’s least developed countries and other countries with special needs.
